Forbo® Marmoleum Linoleum Flooring Helping to win the fight against Hospital Acquired Infections

Healthcare is among the most challenging environments for the Admission and Discharge community to service, and with good reason. Interior finishes must be hygienic and provide for the health and safety of patients, visitors and staff. The flooring must be tough enough to withstand the daily, around-the-clock pounding from rolling and foot traffic and still be easy to maintain.
When designing healthcare facilities, we think of safety, function and aesthetics, sterile environments are meant to be safe and germ/bacteria free. Marmoleum Linoleum is a floor covering that meets these criteria and is no stranger to designers. Introduced more than a century ago, today’s linoleum is harkening a new generation of specifiers as a durable, all-natural alternative to resilient flooring.
Marmoleum ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria stems from the natural raw materials that go into its production, namely linseed oil, pine resin ,wood floor and jute . An inherent property of the product, the anti-bacterial qualities of Marmoleum won’t diminish over time, giving peace of mind and constant protection from the moment it is installed.
Marmoleum Linoleum has received the British Allergy Foundation’s Seal of Approval due to the fact that they do not harbour bacteria or dust mites, contributing to healthier indoor environments.
The major attribute of marmoleum that makes it applicable to medical centers and hospitals is its sheet production. The sheet application allows for minimal seams and, therefore, offers less opportunity for bacteria to hide in grout lines or floor seams. Additionally, this allows for better maintenance options than other flooring.
Linoleum is made from natural materials such as linseed oil, jute, cork powders and tree resins. The product is antistatic, hypoallergenic and does not emit potentially harmful VOCs, so it contributes to good indoor air quality.
Similar to other resilient floors, linoleum comes in multiple fresh hues, and the color and pattern extend through the entire thickness of the product. When specified in roll goods, marmoleum allows for flowing designs and adds natural influences to otherwise harsh environments. Like resilient and rubber, marmoleum can be waterjet cut with intricate patterns and inlays.
Forbo® Marmoleum flooring is considered to be an asthma and allergy friendly flooring choice. In fact, Marmoleum flooring is the only floor covering that is certified to be allergy and asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America® (AAFA), making it is safe for adults, children, and pets with allergies or asthma.

Professional Floor Installation matters – the performance of a new floor depends on it.

You have a host of choices when it comes to new flooring – material, style, color, and more – really, the only limit is your imagination. Whatever flooring you choose for your home, who installs it makes all the difference.
Doing it yourself may seem like a great way to save money (and they do make it seem so easy on the home improvement shows), but the time spent and risk of mistake can be costly. This also goes for warehouse or discount dealers; they often take shortcuts or use inexperienced installers, so achieving the look you want or long-term value can be a costly proposition.
A professional accredited flooring technician has years of experience. YouTube videos may be helpful, but they aren’t going to provide you with the details necessary for completing such a difficult project. Only a professional has the knowledge and experience to guarantee a job well done.
Even the most elegant Laminate ,vinyl Mkeka wa Mbao or Linoleum flooring can appear cheap if the installation isn’t completed properly. Rather than settling for a mediocre installation, rely on professionals to make sure that your home looks its best.
There are many steps during a flooring installation that need to be completed correctly and skillfully for a successful outcome. We are committed in providing the installers with the best training so they in turn, will provide customers with the highest standards of workmanship.
A professional team can ensure that your flooring is installed correctly the first time. You won’t have to spend money on fixing loose ends or replacing mismanaged flooring. Rather, you can enjoy your perfect flooring for years to come.
How important is proper installation? So important that your warranty depends on it! Manufacturers know that Vinyl, or laminates can only perform as well as it is installed.
Safeguard your investment
Flooring investment is a major investment when installed properly, it can increase the overall value of your property. This is no small consideration.
As you can imagine, we’ve seen some pretty shoddy work over the years, which is why we feel so strongly about recommending an accredited professional installer.
At Floor Décor Kenya we are immensely proud of our Accredited Installers. We invest on training them on all products sold at Floor Decor outlets this signifies and acknowledges our high standards of reputable, fairly priced work. Majority of homeowners move into homes without flooring to save on rent, without knowing the risks associated with staying on unfloored house. Staying in an unfloored house mostly with uneven concrete subfloor is uncomfortable and unforgiving! The Worst affected are families with kids or elderly folks in the household, falling will hurt and may seriously injure people. Moreover, unfloored houses usually become damp due to the moisture migrating from the underneath and top of the slab. Another setback of concrete subfloor is coldness, since it has no insulating value and will feel chilled against bare feet. Cold and damp concrete subfloor can worsen asthma symptoms, and is also associated with an increased risk of asthma development and respiratory tract infections.

Discover the Benefits of Composite Decking!

Long the go to material, wood is increasingly being replaced by composite decking as the material of choice for outdoor spaces. Designed to deliver incredible durability, easy maintenance and lasting beauty, composite decking offers all the beauty of wood without the hassles of continuous upkeep.
Composite decking has grown in popularity over the past few years it’s a simple, no-fuss option in more ways than one, which continues to be a top favorite for builders.
Today’s homeowners want to spend their time enjoying their outdoor living spaces rather than maintaining them. High-performance composite decking stands up to weather and day-to-day wear far better than wood. It’s also made from recycled content, which makes it an ideal choice for today’s eco-conscious consumers.
Here are key advantages of using composite decking:
Durability: Composite decking is designed for maximum durability. It resists fading, staining, scratching and mold, and won’t rot, crack or warp. It’s also insect-proof and splinter-free, making it safer and more comfortable for families with kids and pets.
Low-maintenance: With composite decking, you never need to worry about sanding, staining or painting. Just an occasional soap-and-water cleaning is all that’s needed to maintain stability and beauty for decades. Our decking even comes with a 30-year Fade and Stain Warranty, ensuring that it will continue to look and perform as well as the first day it was installed.
Aesthetics: Featuring high-definition wood grain patterns and rich, saturated colors, composite decking looks and feels more natural than ever before. Color options range from deep earth tones to spicy reds and pristine greys, including tropically-inspired boards that feature the distinct streaked look of exotic hardwoods. In addition to the range of decking looks available, homeowners also can find a wide selection of composite accessories, such as railings, stairs, gates, pergolas and furniture, to create a truly customized outdoor space.
Sustainability: Composite decking provides the look and feel of wood without the environmental impact. The deck boards are made using recycled content, including reclaimed industrial wood scraps and recycled plastic from common items such as shopping bags and newspaper sleeves.
Value: Although the initial cost of composite decking can be higher, when you factor in the cost of ongoing maintenance required with a wood deck. Their value becomes unmatched.
Upkeep: Composite decking is made of a mix of waste wood or cellulose fibre and plastic, so typically it requires only an occasional cleaning. The same goes for new non-wood railings offered in a variety of materials, including composite, vinyl, glass and metal. As well as being quick and easy to clean, you don’t need to paint, stain or seal it.
Strong Warranties: Lengthy warranties on composites guarantee enduring good looks and offer additional peace of mind. In fact, our decking is backed by a 30-year Fade and Stain Warranty, which is unprecedented in the industry—resulting in the ultimate assurance of lasting beauty. When planning an outdoor living space, an important consideration for homeowners is cost. As with many things in life, you get what you pay for.
Color Retention and Uniformity: Many people choose composite decks because of their uniform color. Since the boards are manufactured from a batch of mixed material, each board has the same look as the next.
Pest Free: When it comes to standard wood materials, homeowners are often faced with fighting off bugs. Without properly infused wood, these pests can result in wood rot, mold, unwanted growths, and other negative outcomes. Composite decking, however, is resistant to bugs and will not mold or decay over time.
Easy installation: Another perk of composite decks is that the installation is relatively easy. Wood decks can be a bit tricky and a hassle to install. Composite decks, on the other hand, come without the same hassle that wood decks have when it comes to installation
Decks are a wonderful accessory to have for your home. They are a pleasant outdoor retreat for your home where you can relax, entertain, or enjoy the afternoon sun. They boast several other significant benefits that make it the ideal choice for contractors, architects, and homeowners, alike.
Whether you are looking to add a deck or you are looking to replace and update your current one, consider steering away from the wood standard and instead, embrace the trend of composite decks for your home. Here at Floor Décor Kenya we have an immense range that gives you the design flexibility to achieve a look that suits your lifestyle.

What factors to consider when shopping for a laminate floor

Laminate Abrasion Criteria (AC Ratings) Explained
Have you ever checked through a range of laminate flooring and spotted an AC rating? You probably asked “what do these ratings mean? Laminate floors are given ratings relating to their durability and suitability of use. The internationally accepted classification of laminate flooring durability is the Abrasion Criteria or ‘AC’ Rating.
AC stands for Abrasion Criteria.  It means products have been tested for durability for abrasion, stains and burns and impact resistance. AC stands for Abrasion Class, and it was introduced by the European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF). Most laminates are now graded with an AC rating, which is a much more accurate measure of how tough and durable a particular laminate is.
Laminates will endure a series of tests to determine how well the floor will stand up to wear and tear – in both residential and commercial settings. These tests include the floor’s resistance to abrasion, impact, stains and burns. It must pass certain levels of criteria to achieve a rating. Failing on any of the criteria will prevent the floor from achieving that rating. Each time it passes, it will be tested more stringently to achieve the succeeding rating.
The abrasion classes range from AC1 to AC6, with AC6 being the most durable. They can be divided into both residential and commercial application.  The higher the AC number the more resistant to wear it becomes.  A general rule of thumb is an AC1 would be for low to moderate traffic in a residential application. An AC2 rating (Class 22) rated laminate flooring is one step above the AC1 level, meaning that it is most suitable for domestic settings again, but for areas within the home that see higher footfall but not a huge amount of wear tear. On the other hand, an AC3 rating (Class 23/31) is ideal in moderate trafficked living rooms, conservatories, hallways , moderate foot traffic areas with low amounts of wear and tear such as dining rooms .AC4 (Class 32): would be classified as moderate commercial or higher residential use. For residential an AC4 would be suitable for families with higher traffic and general trafficked commercial spaces such as offices, cafes, salons and boutiques or residential spaces. AC5 rating (Class 33), would be ideal on busy areas requiring medium to heavy traffic resistance such as retail stores, showrooms, restaurants and schools. AC6 rating (Class 34): Very heavy intensive trafficked areas such as supermarkets, airport terminals and public-facing government buildings.
Impact Resistant:
When looking to buy a new laminate floor, the thickness of the laminate isn’t always the best measure of its durability or lifespan. Our Laminates have TitanX™ surface protection together with a dense core material that will keep its elegant finish year in and year out. TitanX™ is a multilayer technology that includes protective and impact layers of aluminum oxides particles, which provides superior protection to wear, scratching and high resistance for handling dropped objects and high heels.
Our AC Ratings
Here at Floor Décor Kenya, we only sell Pergo® the inventor of laminate flooring with an AC rating of AC4 and above. This ensures high durability, without compromising on the authentic look of the flooring. We offer a whole Pergo® range of laminate flooring with a great variety of style, color, and textures. We believe in quality, versatility and natural effect and provide customers with timely updated designs to their market taste. We help consumers understand the differences between the vast laminate flooring types out there and make informed purchases to get the perfect floor.

Why Flooring is Important

Flooring is a significant part of any interior design and can easily make or break your space. It serves as a foundation to your design and can ultimately determine its overall success. Flooring brings the whole room together: Without the right flooring, your room can have design elements in all the right places and still not look right! The floors of a house take the brunt of our everyday activities and are usually the first surfaces to reflect wear and tear.
While our first interaction with a space is visual, the first physical contact a person will have with your space is the flooring. As such it’s important to invest in floors which will keep pace with your daily life and add value while simultaneously infusing your home with a touch of class.
Regardless of which design style you have chosen, selecting a complimentary flooring option is a must. As one of the most used surfaces in our home, flooring is expected to withstand constant use while enduring its transcendent quality. With the vast variety of flooring choices available, it is easy to get carried away and forget about the practical aspects that should be taken into consideration.
Pricing, quality and style are amongst the top researched variances when purchasing flooring. While it is possible to save money upfront by purchasing cheap flooring, it will not last. Nowadays, flooring is viewed as an investment and there are a number of options available for every budget. From hardwood, to laminate, marmoleum and Mkeka wa Mbao™ – Floor Décor Kenya carries them all our underlying goal is durability first price comes second .
Floors are an essential element in interior design and improving the aesthetic appeal of any property. But when it comes to decorating a space, some home and business premises owners make the mistake of focusing only on the ceilings and walls and completely overlooking the flooring.  You do not want to do that. A room’s flooring is its base, too. A high quality floor improves the interior design of a space and brings together all the other elements, including the furniture and wall and ceiling decors.
Looking for superior quality and affordable flooring materials at the right flooring center is therefore important. Home and business owners in East Africa are very privileged to have a reliably flooring store such as Floor Décor Kenya that offers all its clients a wide variety of top quality flooring options for both residential and commercial buildings, offices, Hospitals, Churches, Warehouses, Schools, Hotels and Industries.
Whether you choose to go with durable laminates, or easy to maintain vinyl and marmoleum or the lush turf grass, you’ll find the best of these products at Floor Décor Kenya Showrooms countrywide.
